Royal Caribbean 7-Night Eastern Caribbean & Cococay Adventure of the Seas Review

We have been interested in doing a cruise for a long time now. But there were always some excuses. Are the kids old enough to really enjoy it (ages 8 and 3)? Will my wife have motion sickness (she usually do on boats)? Will the room feel clastrophobic for me (I don’t have that issue generally but I am 6’2″ so small rooms and small beds are an issue)?

Let me jump right to the end. The kids had a blast! My wife didn’t feel any motion sickness. And the rooms, from my point of view, were great! Looking for the details? Read on!

Embarking on a Royal Caribbean cruise was an exciting experience, and their 7 Night Eastern Caribbean & Perfect Day Adventure of the Seas was absolutly great. In this article, we’ll share our thoughts and experiences aboard this incredible cruise, detailing the highlights and unforgettable moments, so you can decide if it’s the perfect vacation for you.

From the moment we stepped onto the majestic Adventure of the Seas, we were in awe of the ship’s grandeur and the multitude of activities, dining options, and entertainment available. We can’t wait to share with you our favorite moments, the jaw-dropping sights, and the exhilarating activities we had the pleasure of experiencing during our time onboard.

The Ship: Adventure of the Seas

We had the pleasure of boarding the Adventure of the Seas for a 7-night Eastern Caribbean & Perfect Day cruise that provided us with endless entertainment and leisure options.

While on board, we were constantly amazed by the wide range of activities and amenities. The Perfect Storm℠ twin racer slides had our adrenaline pumping, and Chops Grille℠ never disappointed with their perfectly cooked steaks. The showstopping glitz of Jackpot on stage only added to the adventure-filled experience.

No day spent aboard the Adventure of the Seas was complete without a visit to the Splashaway Bay℠ water park. This family-friendly attraction made for unforgettable memories with its exhilarating rides and fun atmosphere. Apart from the varied onboard activities, we made sure we enjoy every port day to the fullest with rewarding shore excursions.

Journey Outline: 7 Night Eastern Caribbean

Our adventure kicked off from the breathtaking port of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As we took off for the open seas, we spent our first day cruising, soaking up the sun, and enjoying the many onboard amenities that the Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas had to offer.

Our second day brought us to a real tropical treat – Roatan, Honduras. This lush, unspoiled island welcomed us with magnificent beaches, rich marine life, and warm local culture. We hugged some sloths, swam with colorful fishes, enjoyed beachside activities, and got a taste of the delicious local cuisine.

Our third day was highlighted by a visit to Belize City, Belize. This fascinating city offered a unique blend of old and new, with ancient Mayan ruins, modern shops, and a rich blend of cultures to explore. We marveled at the stunning natural landscapes and got up close and personal with the areas unique wildlife.

The fourth day transported us to the vibrant Mexico destination of Cozumel. With its crystal-clear waters and lively atmosphere, this island was the perfect backdrop for snorkeling, scuba diving or simply unwinding.

After our action-packed port visits, we spent the fifth day cruising and recharging our batteries. It was the perfect opportunity to relax by the pool, test our skills at the onboard rock wall, or indulge in a spa treatment.

On the sixth day, we experienced a truly Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas. This private island offered thrilling waterslides, beautiful beaches, and one-of-a-kind floating cabanas. We couldn’t get enough of the countless activities and picture-perfect scenery that surrounded us.

Finally, we made our way back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on our seventh day, bringing an incredible 7 Night Eastern Caribbean adventure to a close. This journey left us with many unforgettable memories, new friends, and a rejuvenated sense of wanderlust.

Onboard Experiences

Aqua Park Fun

We couldn’t wait to dive into the action at Splashaway Bay℠. This aqua park has something for everyone, from kids to adults. We found ourselves enjoying the slides, water cannons, and waterfalls almost every day. The excitement peaked when the drench bucket filled up, creating a splash that delighted everyone!

The Perfect Storm℠ Thrills

On the more daring side of things, we tried our luck on The Perfect Storm℠. We climbed up the water slide and took a heart-pounding ride through twists and turns before splashing down in the pool. It was the perfect adrenaline rush for thrill-seekers like us, and we couldn’t help but take a few more rides throughout our cruise.

For families traveling with children, the Adventure Ocean Youth Program provides a wide range of activities for kids of all ages. From science experiments to arts and crafts, there is always something new and exciting to try.

In addition to these activities, the Adventure of the Seas also offers a rock climbing wall, mini-golf course, basketball court, and more. Whether you are looking for adventure or relaxation, there is something for everyone on board.

Port Day – Roatan

Upon arrival at the port, we were welcomed with warm smiles and an array of colorful stalls selling local crafts, souvenirs, and delicious food. After a short stroll, we found ourselves in West Bay Beach, a stunning stretch of white sand and turquoise waters perfect for a relaxing day in the sun.

For Roatan, we didn’t use the Royal Caribbean’s excrusions. We booked a tour in advance from a local service provider via tripadvisor. Their tour included a visit to an animal shelter where my wife got one of her dreams, to hug a sloth, fulfiled. It also included a trip to a local rum factory, a chocolate factory and a private beach.

Port Day – Belize

Iguanas in Belize

It is worth mentioning that Belize doesn’t have a cruise port, so our ship had to anchor several miles out and we had to tender from the ship to Belize City. The 15-minute ride was not too bad and gave us the chance to get some beautiful views of the coastline. However, be prepared for a bit of a wait, as many passengers need to be transported.

Once we arrived in Belize City, we noticed the vibrant local atmosphere. There was a lively market right by the port, offering a variety of souvenirs and local handicrafts – a perfect place for us to find gifts for friends and family back home.

When we arrived in Belize, we found a local service provider (it wasn’t hard as there are many there) that took us to a trip around the city and to a local water park.

Belize is also home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world, so we couldn’t pass up the chance to do some incredible snorkeling. We were amazed at the colorful marine life and coral formations just beneath the surface. No trip to Belize would be complete without this unforgettable underwater experience.

Port Day – Cozumel

As soon as we stepped off the ship, we felt the energy of Cozumel. The lively atmosphere of the port area, filled with shops and restaurants, set the tone for our day. We decided to explore the island on our own, rather than booking a group tour, which allowed us to ensure we spent our time doing things we were most interested in.

Cozumel was the only time in that cruise that we wanted to book a Royal Caribbean’s shore excrusion. We were looking for something that we all can enjoy as a family and given our younest age (3 years old boy), we found that they offer a swim with dolphins experience in a location that has both a beach and a pool.

Perfect Day at CocoCay

Cococay view from the ship

As far as I know, every Royal Caribbean’s cruise is porting for a day in CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private destination exclusively for their guests. Located in the Bahamas, this $250 million oasis provided endless ways for us to enjoy stunning beaches, pristine water, and thrilling activities.

One of the major highlights was the Thrill Water Park that had a fantastic variety of slides. For adrenaline junkies like us, it was a blast to experience one of the tallest water slides in the world! We also had a go at the zipline which gave us a bird’s eye view of the island and left a lasting impression.

It is recommended to leave the boat and find a place on the beach as early as possible. There are usually more than one Royal Caribbean’s ship that docks there each day. So that’s about 5,000-8,000 people looking for a chair close to the beach.

The water are clear and warm as you can expect from a Bahamas island. Snorkeling is highly recommended. There are plenty of fish, manta ray and other animals there.

During our day we had a lot of small jelly fishes. I can’t say if that is common there or not but it wasn’t that bad.

Of course, all of that excitement and exploration worked up quite an appetite, but thankfully there were plenty of dining options on the island to keep our energy levels high. We refueled with some delicious tropical dishes and refreshing beverages at the various bars and eateries scattered throughout CocoCay.

Between our adventures, we took some time to chill out and soak up the sun on the beautiful white sand beaches. We found a couple of comfortable beach chairs and let the gentle waves wash over our thoughts, providing a moment of peace amid all the excitement. The perfect balance of relaxation and thrill is what made our day at CocoCay truly unforgettable.

Dining Options

When it comes to dining options on the Adventure of the Seas, there is something for everyone. From casual to fine dining, the ship has it all.

Windjammer Café

For a quick lunch or a casual meal, the Windjammer Café is the perfect spot. With a wide variety of options, including vegetarian and gluten-free choices, there is something for everyone. We love the international cuisine and the relaxed atmosphere of the Windjammer Café.

We quickly found that this is the right place for us because our kids can make a lot of noise (it is noisy already) and there is truly endless of possibilities that will satisfy even the most stubborn food picker (and we know one or two of those).

Main Dining Room

Main Dining room

The Main Dining Room is the perfect place to enjoy a warm, full meal for breakfast and a multi-course feast for dinner. The menu changes nightly, and each dish is expertly prepared and served by friendly staff.

They really make an effort to find you a table with the same server you had on your previous dinning so you could really make a connection with them.

Luckily, we were able to find a few occusions where our boys were right on the sweet spot of being tired from running and jumping yet not tired enough to be cranky. We love the elegant atmosphere of the Main Dining Room, and it’s a great place to go, even with kids.

Specialty Restaurants

If you’re looking for something a little more upscale, Royal Caribbean offers several specialty restaurants, like Chops Grille and Giovanni’s Table. These restaurants offer amazing food in a restaurant setting that is both elegant and intimate. It is highly recommend making reservations in advance to ensure you get a table.

Room Service

If you’re looking for a more intimate dining experience, room service is available 24/7. With a wide variety of options, including breakfast in bed, sandwiches, salads, and desserts, you can enjoy a meal in the comfort of your own cabin.

Entertainment on Adventure of the Seas

When it comes to entertainment, Adventure of the Seas has something for everyone. From Broadway-style shows to ice skating performances, there is never a dull moment on this ship. Here are some of our favorite entertainment options:

Broadway Shows

One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the Broadway-style shows on Adventure of the Seas. We were blown away by the talent of the performers and the quality of the productions. We saw a variety of shows, including “Grease” and “Mamma Mia!”, and each one was better than the last. The sets and costumes were top-notch, and the performers truly brought the shows to life.

Ice Skating

Ice skating show

Another unique entertainment option on Adventure of the Seas is ice skating. Yes, you read that right – there is an ice skating rink on board! We were amazed by the skill of the ice skaters and loved watching them perform. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try ice skating yourself during one of the open skating sessions.

Live Music

Throughout the ship, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy live music. From the piano bar to the pool deck, there is always a musician or band playing. We especially enjoyed the Latin band that played in the Boleros lounge – they had everyone up and dancing!

Casino

For those who enjoy a little gambling, the casino on Adventure of the Seas is a great option. There are plenty of slot machines and table games to choose from, and the atmosphere is lively and fun. We didn’t win big, but we still had a great time playing.

But that is just the beginning. There are game shows, bingo nights, Karaoke and much much more.

Accommodation Types

There are several types of rooms in that ship. The Interior rooms, which offer a comfortable and budget-friendly place to rest after a day of activities. These rooms are well-designed and include all the basic amenities you need for a great stay. Even though there is no window or balcony, these economical staterooms are perfect for those who don’t plan on spending much time in their room.

The Outside staterooms, or oceanview rooms is the room we chose. It provided a view of the ocean through a larger-than-expected porthole. These rooms truly elevate the cruising experience as you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while still having all the comforts of an interior room.

For those who prefer more outdoor space, the Balcony rooms are an excellent choice. These accommodations come with a private balcony that allows you to enjoy the fresh sea air, morning coffee, or a romantic nightcap. It’s an amazing way to wake up to stunning ocean views while still enjoying a comfortable living space. Although the price difference wasn’t as high, we decided not to go with a balcony room due to safety concern for our energetic boys.

Lastly, the Suites/Deluxe category offers the most luxurious accommodations onboard. These rooms range from Junior Suites to the jaw-dropping Royal Suite. With a separate living area, upgraded amenities, and exclusive access to lounges and dining venues, these suites truly provide the ultimate cruise experience.

Health and Safety Protocols

As we sailed on the Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas cruise, we were pleased to see the strict health and safety protocols in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers.

Before boarding the ship, each guest was required to complete a Health Status Questionnaire on the Royal Caribbean app. This helped the cruise line screen for any potential health risks and ensure that passengers were fit to travel.

On the ship, cleanliness was of utmost importance. Hand sanitizing stations were located throughout the vessel, and the crew made sure to frequently clean high-touch areas. Handwashing was also promoted in areas such as restrooms and dining facilities, fostering a culture of good hygiene practices among both passengers and crew.

In the dining areas, we observed extra precautions taken in light of the health and safety concerns. For example, instead of self-service buffets, crew members were stationed to serve passengers their desired dishes. This decreased the risk of contamination and kept the dining experience enjoyable for everyone.

All in all, the health and safety protocols during our 7-night cruise made us feel secure and allowed us to fully enjoy and make the most of our vacation.

Weather Consideration

Weather is unpredictable and there is nothing you can do to change it. So it is better to adjust yourself as you go. When we booked our trip, 6 months in advance for August, we didn’t know if it would be rainy or not. We knew it would probably be very hot and humid most of the time but it can be chilly in the evening and morning and a good chance of rain.

Luckily for us, it didn’t rain a single day during our cruise (It was raining like crazy during the day we boarded the ship in Fort Lauderdale).

For cruising days, it’s important to keep in mind that the weather can fluctuate between sunny, partly cloudy, and rainy. It’s recommended to pack a variety of clothing options to accommodate different temperatures and conditions. Don’t forget to include layering pieces, such as lightweight jackets or sweaters, and breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics. A good pair of walking shoes is essential for exploring the ship and participating in onboard activities.

On port days, weather can vary depending on each destination within the Eastern Caribbean. While the region is typically known for warm temperatures and sunny skies, rain showers and occasional storms can happen. It’s wise to review the weather forecasts for each port of call before your trip to help inform your packing choices. This way, you’ll be prepared with rain gear, sun protection, and appropriate clothing for each location.

In addition to clothing, it’s also helpful to consider the weather when planning your shore excursions. Some activities may be weather-dependent, such as snorkeling, beach days, or outdoor adventure tours. If you’re aware of the general weather expectations, you can better choose excursions that suit the conditions and avoid disappointment due to cancellations or last-minute changes.

Customer Service Review

Embarkation and Disembarkation
The process of boarding and exiting the ship was smooth for us, with friendly staff guiding us every step of the way. The Royal Caribbean team was well-organized and helped ensure that the experience was hassle-free. They deserve praise for their efficiency in managing such a large group of passengers over the duration of the cruise.

Cabin and Restaurant Service
In our cabin, the housekeeping staff maintained a high level of cleanliness and tidiness. Any requests were promptly attended to, and the staff always had a friendly demeanor. Similarly, in the ship’s multitude of restaurants, servers were attentive, courteous, and experienced in dealing with diverse dining preferences. The service there was undoubtedly top-notch, and we appreciated their commitment to making our dining experiences memorable.

Excursions and Onboard Activities
Throughout the trip, we found the Royal Caribbean staff to be knowledgeable about the variety of excursions offered and were more than willing to provide recommendations based on personal experiences. The staff was readily available to assist with any questions or changes in our plans, which was a welcome convenience. Onboard activities were well-organized, and the team was enthusiastic in their interactions with passengers, making our participation in these events enjoyable.

It’s important to note that there were reports of some negative customer service experiences from other passengers. However, during our time on the cruise, we were fortunate to have a positive experience with the Royal Caribbean staff, who were consistently friendly and accommodating to our needs. We felt that our overall customer service experience on this adventure of the seas cruise was highly satisfactory.

Conclusions: Overall Impressions

We were thrilled by our experience on the 7 Night Eastern Caribbean & Perfect Day Adventure of the Seas Royal Caribbean cruise. From the moment we stepped on board, we felt like we were in for something truly special.

The ship itself was an impressive sight, with a grand and sophisticated design. Onboard, we found a wide range of activities and entertainment options catering to all age groups. A highlight for us was the Splashaway Bay℠ kids’ aqua park. This water-filled wonderland was complete with slides, water cannons, and waterfalls, providing endless excitement for our little ones.

The dining options were another area where the cruise shined. We were impressed with the sheer variety of cuisines available, along with the impeccable quality and presentation. Each meal was a true delight, and we always looked forward to trying the different dishes offered.

During our journey, we had the chance to explore the beautiful Eastern Caribbean ports. The included shore excursions allowed us to immerse ourselves in new cultures and environments, making our vacation even more memorable.

Overall, our time aboard the Adventure of the Seas with Royal Caribbean was nothing short of amazing. From the top-notch amenities to the friendly staff and captivating entertainment, our experience was truly unforgettable. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore the stunning Eastern Caribbean and we are already looking into our next cruise!
